Introducing Echo

Echo is an evolutionary robot programmed with a rapidly adapting artifical intelligence versatile enough to fill multiple battlefield combat roles. Developed in our top laboratories in Singapore by a group of scientists lead by Dr. Mina Liao to aid Overwatch agents in the field, Echo is a one-of-a-kind learning and self-developing AI which can observe and replicate anything she sees from physical fighting styles to weapons and their ammunition. Echo was designed to be able to fill any role on the team, from medic, to soldier, to tank, as needed by their allies. Echo is designed to be a powerful addition to the battlefield in times of need. Equipped with numerous failsafes each contributed by a different scientist, Echo is considered one of the safest and most viable superweapons to date.
Flight and Glide

While they are capable of levitating nearly a foot off the ground even when not in combat, Echo is also capable of proper, albeit brief, moments of flight, and is able to propell themself up to 8 meters forward and 16 meters forward and up into the air before gracefully descending back to their target area.

Sticky Bombs

Echo's secondary weapon is something we call "sticky bombs." They are able to fire a volley of projectiles at 50 meters per second which stick to an enemy target and detonate within a second of contact. The explosions have a 2 meter damage radius, and a direct shot can be lethal.

Focus Beam

As a final move against enemies, Echo possesses the Focus Beam ability. They are able to summon a beam of hard light which, when projected at low health targets, is able to finish them off within moments. The ability does 1/4th damage to targets above the threshhold.

Duplicate

We here at Overwatch are proud to announce the most useful tool in Echo's kit: the Duplicate ability, which allows them to select another individual on the battlefield and copy their form, including their weapons and feats. Following a period of observation, Echo is able to replicate virtually anything they witness, with this ability ranging from physical attacks and things such as weapons and projectiles to physical feats of the copied target. Once an individual has been selected, Echo begins a full body scan of the individual, permeating every layer of their weaponry and physique before broadcasting a hard light copy of the person's body over their own, where they are then able to mimic anything they have seen the individual do previously with startling accuracy.

Though initially created for use on the battlefield, Overwatch is exploring all of the different ways Echo might be useful to the public; despite this, there are no plans to develop additional instances of Echo for wide-scale distribution for other public or private uses.

Personality module

Echo never stops learning, and over time has become capable of forming relationships with others, based on their observances of human customs and communication. While their initial test interactions with humans were somewhat unsuccessful, later tests proved that Echo was capable of replicating human emotions such as sympathy, excitement, and disappointment; many more tests concluded that Echo was capable of a wide range of emotions, including, but not limited to: frustration, satisfaction, anger, sadness, guilt, delight, jealousy, and pride.

Dr. Mina Liao

Dr. Mina Liao is Echo's creator and the basis for their artificial personality. While their relationship would not be accurately described as parent to child nor creator to creation, they are important counterparts to each other, with Echo being the culmination of Dr. Liao's life's work and Echo being indebted to Dr. Liao for their existence. While Echo's AI is modeled after Dr. Liao's own, she encouraged them to become their own person, embracing their individuality.

Cole Cassidy

Echo's first real "friend," Cole Cassidy was originally stationed to protect Dr. Mina Liao while she worked long stints of time on Echo where she would otherwise be alone. Despite their ethical differences, Echo considers Cole a very close friend, and models a shocking (and perhaps inappropriate, and therefore problematic) amount of their behavior and mannerisms after the cowboy. He was the first person they spoke to after being awoken, and this holds a special place in their heart.

Omnics

Due to the nature of Echo's programming, Echo knows that they are a robot. Despite their close connection to humanity, Echo feels no special kinship to them. However, the same can be said for their relationships with Omnics; because they were not produced by the Omnium corporation, Echo expresses no particular amount of camaraderie to Omnics, though it should be additionally noted that they do not consider themself as being inherently superior in any way.
